Through the many years of research that has been carried out by Historian James Balme at his sites in Cheshire he has recovered a large number of Roman Brooches from the fields that make up an ancient settlement he has been investigating for over eleven years. This short film features just a handful of the brooches recovered in close up detail.

They are fibulae for Roman clothing, all the pins are missing due to breaking off and hence the brooches became useless and were disposed of or lost.

Were these brooches for decorative purposes only or are they in fact fibulae to keep roman clothing together?
