Jewelry-making Tutorial: How to Make a Floating Illusion Necklace

Posted: August 27th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Jewelry Videos | Tags: , , , , | 25 Comments »

This style of necklace is one of my absolute favorites. So simple and elegant! The beads on the necklace look as if they are “floating” because the wire is hard to see. Crimp beads are used as “stoppers” so the floating beads will stay in place. I was first introduced to this necklace style by this website: www.beadage.net Thank you, Emma! Materials list: – Beading board (if you do not have one of these then a ruler would be sufficient) – Beading wire (I used Accu-flex .019″ size) – Crimp beads (I used twenty-four 1.5mm round) – Crimp covers (I used 3mm) – Some beads (I used eleven 8mm beads) – Clasp (I used a barrel clasp) – Wire cutters – Crimping pliers (or flat-nose pliers) Sources for materials: Beading wire, crimp beads, crimp covers, and beads are from www.firemountain.com. Clasp from http Disclaimer: All products used in this video were purchased by me. This video was not sponsored.

@redfindz Great tips! And I’m glad you liked the video! I am hoping to be filming some soon. I think I might have a camera that has video capabilities. ;)

The beading wire I used is Accu-flex .019″. I purchased this beading wire from Fire Mountain Gems. The item number is H20-2512BS. I hope this answers your question. If you have any more please don’t hesitate to ask! :D

What gauge wire do you use for this necklace? Great video. Easy to follow. Thanks.
You can also find these trays in packs of 2 or 3 at craft stores like Michael’s. Usually can find them by the craft paints.

The dish I use is called and a Beading Porcelain Tray and was purchased from Fire Mountain Gems. They come in a set of three. The item number is H20-1211PK. An alternative would be a watercolor plastic palette – those are quite easy to find!
