How to make clip-on earrings more comfortable?

I bought a pair of clip-on earrings on ebay for my gypsy costume. Unfortunately, the clip is so tight, I can barely wear them for five minutes. Is there anything I can do to make them less pinchy? Any help is appreciated.

    stretch the backs with a pair of pliers,
    or change the clips to looser ones
