how much is a necklace with a four diamond pendant worth?

Posted: June 30th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Jewelry Questions | Tags: , , , , , | 7 Comments »

It’s from an ex-boyfriend, I never wear it and I’ve never really been into wearing much jewelry, especially expensive jewelry. It sits in a box hidden in my room. I’m in a situation where I could use the money, how much may it be worth if I decide to sell or pawn it?

Impossible to say because diamonds vary such a lot. The only way to find out is to take it to be valued.

It depends on where you’re getting it from. I’m sure it’ll cost you more if you got it from Tiffany’s vs. getting it from The Home Shopping Network? You should take it to a trusty jeweler and get it appraised.

No one can tell you unless you can advise the gold content of the metal (10K, 14K, 18K??), how much the metal weighs and the carat weight and grade of the diamonds.

You’ll have to take it to an appraiser to know for sure. Based on the description you gave, it could be worth a lot or nothing.

Diamond values are based on the four C’s (Color, Clarity, Carat, Cut) and can vary greatly. Carat and Color are more important than Clarity and Cut.

Gold value depends on the Karat of the Gold (10K, 14K, 18K, 22K, 24K). The necklace should have a stamp on it near the clasp indicating the type of gold. 24K gold is pure gold while 12K would be 50% gold. There is very little 24K gold on the market as it would be too soft so most gold is combined with another metal. Diamonds Carat is a measurement of weight while gold Karat is a measurement of gold purity.

The best way for you to find out what your necklace is worth is using the online calculator at http://www.SmartTermLoans.com. Simply enter in your item and description and they will instantly make a loan offer on it. I often use this website for collectible coins. This will give you an excellent starting point.

    Good luck!
